Cancer Superhero

This week we received the best news ever. Ev-er! I have woken up with the biggest smile on my face every day this week knowing that Dani is cancer free. Cancer FREE!!!

Obviously this called for a celebration. But not a big whoop-la. Like we did in October after Dani rang the bell, we kept it small. And it was perfect.

We ate yummy food and drank good wine. I know, shocker. The best part though? We surprised Dani.

On January 30th, Dani will celebrate her "28th and Holding" birthday. She's been 28 for 8 years now. I give it another year before Poot figures out that the math just ain't adding up.

Even though Judy put a birthday necklace around her neck, it wasn't until after dinner, when we lit the candles singing "Happy Birthday" and set the cake down in front of her did Dani truly realized what was going on.

Gina made the most amazingly perfect cake ever: A Cancer Superhero Cake.  She even cut Wonder Woman's hair short.

Yum!

Earlier this week Dani took her first ski lesson and LOVED it. This is huge for some many reasons.  First, she was afraid to try skiing. Not being in control and flying down a hill at ridiculous speeds may have something to do with it.  Secondly, James skis and Poot has been taking lessons. Translation: more outdoor family activities.  And most importantly, we now have another option for girls weekends. Woot woot!!

To make sure she is totally ready for those ski get-aways, the girls and I went in on 5 private ski lessons. I wasn't sure about it at first. Control freak, remember? But the more I thought about it the perfect it really is. On so many levels. It will get her out a bit during the week. She's wanted to start exercising again and this way she can go at her own pace while having a private instructor along side. It will also give her a distraction from the day-to-day right now and something to look forward to. Did I mention girls weekends?? Tremblant, here we come!

Last night was perfect. Everyone was full of love, happy and genuinely relaxed.  Something we haven't been in a long time. The "Big C" isn't looming anymore.

I even had a huge surprise yesterday. Every Saturday hubs volunteers with the Capital City Condors - a special hockey team for special people. He came home with a bouquet of ballons of Dani. No prompting. Not even a dropped hint. Total surprise. It was a mix of congratulatory and birthday wishes. Best part was the birthday balloon sang "Get This Party Started" by Pink - our next girls night out in Montreal. Gawd luv him!
